(born 1958) is an artist, poet, musician and one of the founding members of the New Artists group. He lives and works in St. Petersburg. He took up painting at the age of 20. At an early stage of his career he was highly influenced by the work of such artists as Boris "Bob" Koshelokhov and Evgeny Yufit, as well as by punk and rock culture of the day. Starting from 1982 he began collaborating with the New Artists group and the Society for Experimental Visual Art. His first solo exhibition took place in 1983 at the ASSA gallery in Timur Novikov’s apartment. As an artist Kotelnikov is a distinguished successor to a rich Russian tradition of dark humour.
